Edwina Findley is an award-winning film, television, and theatre actress, hailed by critics as “a marvel to watch.” From starring in critically acclaimed projects on screen to penning her debut book, and speaking on faith, entrepreneurship, motherhood, marriage and manifestation, Edwina has proven time and time again she can do it all.
This year, Edwina can be seen starring opposite Uzo Aduba, Giancarlo Esposito, and Randall Park in Netflix’s upcoming murder mystery series, “The Residence.” Executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and set in The White House, the show revolves around the most disastrous (and deadly) state dinner in history. Edwina shines as Sheila Cannon, the fast-talking and hilariously flawed White House Butler. “The Residence” will debut globally on Netflix March 20, 2025.
As a newly minted author, Edwina will release her debut book entitled “The World Is Waiting For You” (HarperOne), a faith-full and laugh out loud guide to manifesting your “God Dream” and creating the life you’ve always wanted, this fall. With a foreword by Academy Award winning actress Viola Davis, the book shares Edwina’s hard-won wisdom regarding manifesting your highest vision, discovering and surrendering to God’s plan, strategically preparing for the life you are praying for, and bravely unleashing your gifts and talents to change the world. “The World Is Waiting For You” will be available in bookstores nationwide and online September 9, 2025.
A vibrant and versatile actress, Edwina has played both rogues and royalty alike, infusing every role with passion and authenticity. She garnered critical attention for her role as “Rosie” in director Ava Duvernay’s Sundance award-winning feature “Middle of Nowhere,” and earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Female for her “skin prickling performance” as “Melva Neddy” in Jake Mahaffy’s “Free In Deed.” Comedically, Edwina turned heads as Kevin Hart’s wife, ‘Rita’ in the Warner Bros’ hit comedy “Get Hard” with Will Ferrell and in HBO’s iconic White House comedy “Veep.” She made her prime-time debut as ‘Tosha Mitchell’ on HBO’s critically acclaimed series “The Wire,” and has since starred in projects such as “The Power” opposite Toni Collette for Amazon, “Rogue Agent,” “Oh Baby Baby,” “If Loving You is Wrong,” “Fear The Walking Dead,” “Chicago Med,” “Black Lightning,” HBO’s “Treme" and “Shots Fired.”
Edwina studied theatre and classical music at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in her hometown, Washington, DC, and is an alumna of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. At NYU, Edwina was honored with the prestigious Outstanding Artist and Scholar Award, Founder’s Day Award, the Dean’s List, and induction into the Tisch University Scholars Program. Edwina continued her arts training at UCLA, Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB), and with Yale Drama’s Gregory Berger-Sorbeck.

Edwina was nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award for Eclipsed, written by Danai Gurira (“The Walking Dead”) and set during the Liberian war, and the historical drama Gee’s Bend, for which Edwina was nominated for a Barrymore Award for Outstanding Lead Actress. Other plays including Winter’s Tale, Twelfth Night, Henry IV, Antigone, Cyrano De Bergerac, Into the Woods, Crowns, and Crumbs From the Table of Joy from Pulitzer prize-winner Lynn Nottage.
