Meegwun Fairbrother is a Canadian actor, screenwriter, and director of Ojibwe and Scottish origin, born in Toronto ,Ontario, and raised in Treaty Three Territory. His family is from Grassy Narrows First Nation, Shoal Lake First Nation, and Eagle Lake First Nation. He was one of the first Indigenous graduates of York University’s Acting Conservatory. In addition to being an award-winning actor, Meegwun is also a talented Men’s Northern traditional dancer and competition pow wow singer, as well as a black belt in Okichitaw, a Plains-Cree Combat system.
Meegwun will next be seen as a series regular on Netflix's upcoming reimagining of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. He has recently appeared in THE STICKY on Amazon Prime and SKYMED on CBC and Paramount+. Meegwun can be seen in CBC’s drama BURDEN OF TRUTH, the APTN series MOHAWK GIRLS, the Syfy series HELIX, as well as HEMLOCK GROVE and AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER for Netflix. He also wrote, directed, and starred in his co-created digital series D dot H for APTN Lumi. His feature film credits include roles in SEEDS FOR KANIEHTIIO HORN, FINALITY OF DUSK for Madison Thomas, BEEBA BOYS for Deepa Mehta, and BREAKOUT for Damien Lee.
An award-winning stage actor and playwright, Meegwun Fairbrother continues to perform in theater. In 2019, he mounted the hugely successful one-man show Isitwendam (An Understanding), produced by Bound to Create Theatre at Native Earth Performing Arts in Toronto, about the fallout of the residential school system and whether healing has an expiry date; it earned 4 Dora Award nominations.
He continues to focus on the development of First Nations people in film and television and is dedicated to telling diverse stories on the world stage.
