Biography

Actor Mykelti Williamson will next be seen in the Apple TV+ series GOVERNMENT CHEESE opposite David Oyelowo this Spring; Apple TV+ series DARK MATTER opposite Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly and Alice Braga; and director Jon Avnet’s feature film THE LAST RODEO, which will be released theatrically on May 23, 2025.

 

Mykelti can currently be seen in the feature film UNSTOPPABLE: THE ANTHONY ROBLES STORY alongside Jharrel Jerome and Jennifer Lopez, produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on Amazon Prime Video. Recently, Williamson has been featured in several noteworthy films, including EMPEROR, directed by Mark Amin and produced by Reginald Hudlin, BUTTER with Mira Sorvino, and THE 24TH, directed by Academy Award-winner Kevin Willmott and based on the historic Houston Riot of 1917.

 

Previously, Mykelti also appeared in Blumhouse’s DON’T LET GO, directed by Jacob Estes and opposite David Oyelowo, Alfred Molina, and Brian Tyree Henry, as well as SAINT JUDY with Michelle Monaghan, Alfre Woodard, and Common. In 2016, Williamson was nominated for a SAG Award for Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture, along with his fellow cast members, including Viola Davis and Denzel Washington, in FENCES. Prior to that, he appeared in Blumhouse’s THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR. His impressive filmography also includes critically acclaimed works like LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN with Bruce Willis and Josh Hartnett, THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON with Sean Penn, and THREE KINGS alongside George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, and Ice Cube.

 

Perhaps most iconic is Williamson's portrayal of ‘Bubba’ in the Oscar-winning classic FORREST GUMP, opposite Tom Hanks—a role that has solidified his place in cinematic history.

 

On television, Williamson has appeared as ‘Honcho’ in the Amazon Prime hit series FALLOUT and as ‘Preston Webb’ in LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME. He’s also had recurring roles in fan-favorite series like CHICAGO PD, DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, UNDERGROUND, and HAWAII FIVE-0. Additionally, he was a series regular on FX's JUSTIFIED alongside Timothy Olyphant and appeared in major roles in 24 with Kiefer Sutherland and KIDNAPPED with Jeremy Sisto.
