Stacey Muhammad

Biography

Stacey Muhammad, a New Orleans native, is an innovative filmmaker, and episodic director known for her compelling storytelling and distinctive style. Her work, which addresses social issues like race, identity, and gender, is celebrated for its raw emotion and authenticity. Stacey’s directing career continues to flourish with her latest work on Amazon's CROSS, seasons one and two. Season one hit 40 million viewers within its first 20 days of release.  She will next direct a block of episodes for Amazon's THE GREATEST, a series about Muhammad Ali.


She recently wrapped season 3 of Amazon Prime’s HARLEM, serving as Co-Producer/Director. Her genre-agnostic talent has been part of multiple celebrated dramedies, including Amazon's HARLEM, the family-driven ABC comedies THE WONDER YEARS and BLACK-ISH, NBC/Netflix’s supernatural series MANIFEST, Peacock’s BEL-AIR and THE BEST MAN: THE FINAL CHAPTER, the Paramount+ series GUILTY PARTY, and HBO Max's LOVE LIFE. Her work also spans splashy first-season broadcast dramas such as ABC's QUEENS and the grounded character-driven Starz series RAISING KANAN. Her journey into television began after Ava DuVernay saw her work on the digital series FOR COLORED BOYS: REDEMPTION and hired her to direct on the hit series QUEEN SUGAR. Stacey is also working on her first feature film, THE RETURN, which is currently in development with Malcolm D. Lee.


Stacey is dedicated to advancing inclusivity and diversity in the entertainment industry, creating equitable opportunities for underrepresented voices. As a 2020 Warner Bros. Directing Workshop alumna and a participant in the Directors Guild of America’s Commercial Diversity Program, Stacey has directed commercials for AARP and shadowed notable directors. Her impactful work, featured in major publications and on platforms like HuffPost Live, underscores her commitment to storytelling that ignites conversations and drives change. Beyond directing, Stacey lectures on film and social justice and teaches documentary filmmaking to underserved youth.
